BAJA CALIFORNIA - SPORT FISHING
Cruising the waiter of the Pacific Ocean on a fishing boat and getting into a world of relaxing and thrilling activity, sport fishing is one of the many attractions you can enjoy in Baja.

Part of the excitement that sport fishing offers, is the pleasure of cruising or sailing the waters of the Pacific, feeling that you are part of the nature around you, and enjoying those spectacular views, with the sun, the dolphins, the sea lions, and whales jumping and playing in the blue nirvana of the ocean.

For many of the sport fishermen, this activity represents a great and relaxing outdoors adventure that soothes the streets of the city.

That is the case of sport fishing clubs and other center, such as "Sergio's", "Gordo's", "Fritz" and "San Diego Boats" in real fishing boats, with real fishing gear, including fishing rods, reels, fishhooks and lures.

Many of these boats are equipped with all the amenities for a fascinating and comfortable cruse. Also, you can enjoy aboard these boats a bar and a galley, where you can have your meals, despite the sandwiches, snacks and soft drinks you are welcome to bring aboard. Even if you don't like fishing, it is worth while to make the trip, just for the pleasure of enjoying the sea and the view.

There are two different types of sport fishing: Deep water fishing which is practiced in winter time, when you catch rock cod, and corvine, and medium water fishing which is practiced in the warm water of summer time and the catch of the season is tuna and big marlin.

In order to catch a good sized fish, the fisherman must be equipped with more sophisticated fishing gear, which is used by those with more experience and passion for sport fishing: the winners of the first awards in tournaments, or the award to the fisherman of the season. There are daily fishing tours that leave at 7:00 a.m., coming back to Port after 3:00p.m.to proudly show on the pier the catch of the day.

If you are an amateur fisherman and like to bring your own boat, remember that at the border crossing you must prove to the customs officers that you are the legal owner of your boat, Also keep in mind that is mandatory to obtain a fishing license from the " Secretaria de pesca" (Federal Department of Fishing) and another permit from the " Capitania de Puerto" (Port Captain), for which there is a reasonable minimum charge. If you have a small outboard engine boat, there are several places where you can launch your boat, like Popotla, in Rosarito Beach. If your boat is a big one, with inboard engine, you must look for a place with a ramp. Some are in Ensenada like the one at the Hotel "Coral y Mariana" which has magnificent facilities and ships for boats. Also there is the " Malecon " next to the black market, or the " Stero Beach," south of Ensenada. The prices for the use of the ramps ranger from $20 to $ 35 dollars; keep in mind that for you own safety, keep well maintained your boat and fishing gear and have ready a complete first aid kit, radio communication system and your life vest.

Sport fishing may be a new activity for some people or a very well known sport for some others, but, in this area it's one of the most attractive sport, one in which the participants enjoy the beautiful views of the Pacific ocean and the breathtaking beaches of Baja California.
