What is Your True Purpose?
How many of us have pondered that little question? Have you ever asked yourself
what it is that you should be doing with your life? Somewhere along the roadway of living did you lose sight of your desire, the one that burned inside you when you were younger but because of circumstances had to be put on hold? Are you one of those who had a dream but never got a chance to pursue it and have had to regret it every day for the rest of your life? Working a job doing something that you didn’t like doing but it paid the bills? Or did you trade your dream in for money, instead making money your dream?
Better still, how many of us have never discovered the answer? Everyone has a purpose that goes beyond a job or a livelihood. But due to family dynamics, social pressure or environment a lot of people find themselves doing what their father did and his father and his father before him. Whether it is working in the field or working in a factory the end result is the same, you are not living your true purpose but living in a predetermined repetitive cycle that will continue until someone decides to break it. And they break it by questioning their purpose in life which turns out to be one of the biggest reasons that people find themselves on their spiritual path.
The first step in discovering your true purpose is knowing that you want to and the second step is knowing what it is that you want. This may sound obvious but surprisingly, a large number of people go through their life without coming to terms with the truth of knowing what it is that they want, never finding the answer to what is probably the most important question of one’s existence. There can be many reasons for this and they can be as simple as the influences from our parents or teachers that may have unintentionally limited our imaginations or some outside factor that robbed us of our confidence to act on something. Some people may have been afraid to explore their deepest desires because at the time they may have felt the desire so far out of reach that it would be a waste of time, so they didn’t try.
Whatever age you may be it is never too late to pursue your dream. Maybe it won’t be your livelihood but at least pursue it and someday it could. Or maybe just pursuing it will be enough; enough to make your Spirit happy and joyful because your life is now more balanced and in sync with the Universe. And in doing so you will have raised your vibrational frequency. A single drop of water may seem very insignificant when compared to the power and immensity of an ocean yet that single drop of water contains the essence of the ocean. Its inherent nature is that of the very ocean that continually calls for it to come back and connect to its very source. That is us, all of us. We are all part of the ocean of spiritual energy that is always calling for us to come back home to our Source. Time spent doing what we want to is time never wasted because that is what generates the energy that fuels the rest of our life. When we are happy doing what we love to do our Spirit rejoices and God loves that.
If you haven’t discovered what your true purpose is then I have a simple exercise that you can do to determine it. Every day at the start of the day, sit down with a pen and paper or at a computer and write non stop for ten minutes. Start each sentence with the words “I want” and just let it flow. Don’t stop and think about it just write. When you do this you override the little censor inside your mind that analyzes everything and determines what is possible and what isn’t. We all have a lot of buried treasures in the dark corners of our minds that can be brought into the light if we create a way for that to happen. Do this for at least one week and then at the end of that time look at everything that you wrote and you should see a pattern, and at the very least some insights will begin to emerge and you will begin to feel better in heart, mind and body about what it is you really want. Sometimes the act of expressing a want releases it and when we pay attention to what we want it places us that much closer to receiving it.
And always remember to be grateful for what you do have, your spouse, your children, your pets and your health. Thank God for all of that and do it regularly. This also helps to put you in a more receptive place because the Universe will bring you more to be grateful for. We live in a world of too many people living to accumulate, horde and compete and instead we have to replace that with serve, share and love. We have to realize that like that drop of water we are all connected to Source and we cannot raise our vibrational frequency until we accept that. When we are living our true purpose we are living our life in Spirit. We are happy and joyful and we carry that with us wherever we go and whomever we come in contact with. It’s never too early or too late to live your true purpose. As the Nike slogan says, “Just do it.”
Blessings.
