State Electoral Council Affirms
Governor and Mayoral Results for the Record
José Guadalupe Osuna Millán is officially the governor-elect for the State of Baja California, according to the Baja California State Electoral Council, as they affirmed the majority vote on August 15. The announcement took place at the XVth extraordinary session of the Electoral Council.
The session lasted over four hours. The reading of the official numbers for each district was the first order of business. Following that, the council affirmed the majority for the five mayoral races and majority vote of the governor-elect of Baja California.
Mayors-elect were also announced: Playas de Rosarito, Hugo Torres; Tijuana, Jorge Ramos; Tecate, Donaldo Peñalosa; Ensenada, Pablo Alejo López; Mexicali, Rodolfo Valdez.
Hugo Torres was the only mayoral victory of the Alliance for a Better Lifestyle, which is a coalition of the PRI (Partido Revolucionario Institucional), the Baja California State Party, and the Green Party (Verde Ecologista de México). The other four mayoral candidates were from the coalition of PAN (Partido Acción Nacional), New Alliance (Nueva Alianza), and Social Encounter (Encuentro Social) Parties.
After a short recess, the number of votes for governor, by district, were read. It was then announced that Osuna Millán had the majority of votes. After his victory was affirmed by the State Electoral Council, he made a call for reconciliation and unity and to work together for everyone’s benefit.
“I’m calling on all the people of Baja California to work together toward a common goal. One in which our collective support will move us in the right direction. Each and every one of us must work toward recuperating peace and order in our State, and we need to improve the standard of living of the one’s who need it most. My moral and ethical aim is to, from today forward, work toward achieving that goal,” he emphasized.
After the official confirmation of his candidacy, Osuna flew to Mexico City for an audience with President Felipe Calderón at the Los Pinos executive residence. Mexico’s President congratulated the governor-elect and reiterated his commitment to work in concert with the governor-elect.
According to an official press release from the Office of the President, the Federal Executive expressed his commitment to coordinate work with the government of the State of Baja California to impulse development and to improve the standard of living of its people.
The governor-elect from the PAN (Partido Acción Nacional) also expressed his desire for cooperation with the President of the Republic and to continue collaborative efforts to fight organized crime in Baja California.
