BORDERLESS BUSINESS
“Thought and theory must precede all salutary action; yet action is
Nobler in itself than either thought or theory.”

Business between Mexico and the United States has flourished since the 1993 NAFTA agreement. Fifteen years later, both countries are reaping the benefits of that historic opening of economic doors between the two countries. Billions of dollars have been generated because of the efforts of motivated businessmen in both countries. Some have called the economy between the countries, “borderless.”

One person, who has been involved in market development on both sides of the border, is representative of the burgeoning byproduct of the bi national economy. Flavio Olivieri Borobia, a recipient of the “Under 40” distinctive businessman award, brings to the forefront an impressive blend of brainpower with a BA degree in industrial engineering and an MBA in electronic commerce. A mover and a shaker, he currently is on the Mexican side of the border as Vice President for an innovative consulting and marketing company, Cross Border Group Inc. This timely enterprise has spun into a strategic tool for savvy entrepreneurs, progressive government officials, or others who require market information including surveys, policy analysis or advice before investing in Mexico. Cross Borders Inc offers detailed feasibility studies based on technically advanced strategies and techniques. Fluent in Spanish and English, this group of after NAFTA consultants have a presence in both the United States and Mexico; hence, borderless in their advanced economic approach. They have bi national skills and innovative ideas that propel their clients into the current economy, spiraling with sharpened skills, into the competitive global economy.

Their knowledge, spun from a combination of market research, education and governmental influence, has opened economic doors to the future. For instance, Flavio Olivieri Borobia is a seven year board member of the Tijuana Economic Development Council which is comprised of forty-five private sector advisory board members who coordinate with government officials to enhance and support local economic growth. The mission statement of the Council is paraphrased as follows: Our mission is to plan, promote, coordinate and sustain economic development through policy changes, government legislation, initiatives and infrastructure projects. Coordination of existing economic clusters with government officials brings interactive support to enhance the strength and future of the economy. Such economic niches as health, industry, energy, telecommunications, technology, and tourism have all been promoted, coordinated, and enhanced by these after NAFTA businessmen. Flavio Olivieri founded the Cluster de Tecnologias de Informacion de Baja California and works with the government of the state of Baja California as well as AT&T, Sempra Energy among other powerful entities.

The Tijuana Economic Development Group is an influential force in both The United States and Mexico. Respect for their power comes from successful projects such as the Tijuana Children’s Science Museum. This practical, interactive educational project plays a role in the advancement of educational opportunities for young minds that are Mexico’s future. Who knows who will become the inventors, teachers, scientists, or leaders of the future? For more information about this educational project, go to: eltrompo.com or call 011-52-634-34-46.

A medical tourism initiative is also credited to the Tijuana Economic Development Council. After studying the trends of tourists traveling to other countries to find more cost efficient and innovative medical care than is offered in the United States, the group understood that Tijuana offers a significant part of<>
