TIJUANA - HISTORY

Tijuana long know as Tia Juana, first came into existence as a ranch somewhere around 1830.

By the turn of the century, the little border town population had grown to 240. Contrast that to today's thousands!!!
Tijuana came under a short-lived "military occupation" in 1911 when a group of rag tag US socialist filibusterers attempted to set up an independent republic. They were summarily ousted several weeks later, when Mexican forces tossed intruding "occupation" troops back across the border.

U.S. prohibition in 1919 caused Tijuana to turn into a rip-roaring border town with gambling casinos and other enticing attractions. A flock of tourists came south of the border and gave Tijuana the reputation of being one of the wildest cities in the world. All that has changed now. Tijuana has lived down her gaudy past and is now a booming thriving, industrious city -still attracting tourists by the thousands -but somewhat more virtuously.
